The Healing Power Of The Word

He said, "if you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD who heals you."

- EXODUS 15:26 (NIV)

Other versions state: "…for I am the LORD your healer."

Healing is one of the things we all desire, one way or another - Physically, mentally, spiritually, financially Etc. We quest for perfection in our lifestyle: we seek to be perfect, whole human beings, which of course is our God nature (for we were formed in the likeness of God - Genesis 1:26-27).

In your quest for perfection, wholeness, healing, you might have encountered challenges that make you doubt or lose faith in God. But you must understand that God has the power to heal and is willing to do so.

Going by the opening bible verse (Exodus 15:26), we can see towards the end of the verse, the assurance and reassurance that God gave the Israelites. He assured them that he won't plague them with the diseases of the Egyptians and a reassurance that he is our healer.

What you are required to do to receive healing

In the bible text, you can see that God started his statement with 'if', which means that it is a conditional statement. In other words, in order to receive healing, for God to be your healer, there are some conditions you must meet.

Listen carefully to the voice of God

Before any man can take any action, he has to work on information received. One of the ways by which we can receive information is by listening. In this context, we are to listen to the voice of God. What then is this voice? Is it a loud voice that comes from heaven or what?

The Voice of God can come in any form. It is basically anyway that God can speak to you. It may be through studying the bible, thoughts, sermons, prophetic utterances by spirit-led people, Etc.

So, it is important to note that we must first, submit ourselves to listen to the voice of God.

Do what is right in God's eyes

What is right? How do we know what is right in God's eyes? Our actions and deeds are right if they are in accordance to his instructions, his words, his voice. Be led by the Holy Spirit.

Trust and Obey

God's laws and commands are all in the bible. It is all there. Live in that consciousness and keep them. You must obey what God asks you to do. Only then can the word be potent to your healing (John 9:1-7). You must also trust his word.

It is only after you have met these conditions that you may receive healing and you are rest assured that God will heal you.

God can heal you

God is able to heal us. His power is unlimited, therefore it is only logical to say that nothing limits God. The only way we don't receive from God is because we have shielded ourselves from God's healing by committing sin (Isaiah 59:1-2).

God is more than able to heal us and do all we wish for, but sin… is the barrier. We never really know when we have invited sickness into our lives. We never know when we invite demons of sickness. But surely, they come as a result of sin. When we shield off God's protection, we have given sickness and diseases a chance to come into our lives.

Other times, they come as a test of faith, just like how it happened to Job. Job remained faithful even in affliction and God gave him healing, restoration and salvation as a result of his faith. However, it is worthy of note to know that things like this don't come without God's permission (Job 1:6-12, 2:1-6, Luke 22:31-32).

When you live a sinful life, you imply that we do not need God's protection, hence giving satan and his cohorts a chance to operate on your health. Either ways, God loves us still - sinners and saints alike. And he will heal you.

God will heal you

However, more than these, God has assured us and will continue to assure that he will heal us. These assurances help build our faith, help us to stand firm with hope and expectations.

"I have seen his ways, but I will heal him: I will guide him and restore comfort to him,"

Isaiah 57:18 (NIV)

If you go through the entire chapter, you'd find out that God was talking of the righteous man, the man who makes God his refuge. Of course, man may have sinned, but God assured that if he repents, God will guide him and heal him.

God will heal the righteous man

"Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects." - James 5:16 (RSV)

Why you need healing, good health

• To perform the work of God

• To preach the gospel effectively

• As a sign of your place in Christ Jesus

Assurance of healing in the word

By his stripes you are healed (Isaiah 53:5, Matthew 8:17, I Peter 2:24)

Jesus has paid the price for your healing. Hence, sickness and diseases have no place in your life. In as much as you are saved and you live a righteous life, God will always heal you and protect you from sickness.

" But he was wounded for our transgressions, but he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed."

Isaiah 53:5 (RSV)

Jesus was wounded and bruised for our sins. He was punished so that we might have peace.

No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17)

So long you live a life free of sin, sickness has no reason to be in you. A sickness free life is your inheritance as a child of God.

The potency of the word of God to heal the sick

The following are some instances where Jesus healed the sick through words.

John 4:46-52 - Jesus spoke and the official's son was healed. Jesus did not need to visit the sick boy. He simply spoke and he was healed instantly.

Mark 5:22-42 - In this passage you can see the potency of the word of God. Jesus simply spoke. He spoke healing to life. In between, there was a woman with the issue of blood. Jesus did not need to speak, his garment was enough because he was filled with the holy spirit.

Luke 4:38-39 - Peter's mother-in-law was ill. Jesus rebuked the sickness and it left her. Jesus spoke, and it came to be.

Luke 17:12-14 - Jesus healed the 10 lepers through his word. He simply spoke and they were healed.

Salvation

It is worth emphasizing that a sickness-free life is an inheritance of a child of God. This means that you must be a child of God to enjoy this life. And as earlier stated, there are reasons why we need healing aside for our will. The question lurking: How do I become a child of God?

If you go through John 3:1-15, you will see the conversation between Jesus Christ and Nicodemus. There, Jesus explained to Nicodemus what is required of us to be children of God. When we are born again, we are not born of man, but of God hence becoming children of God.

In becoming children of God, the first step is to believe. What are we to believe? We are to believe that Jesus is the son of God. We must believe in the Life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is not a story, it is true and we must believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God. For Jesus has power to do all things (Ephesians 1:20-23).

Jesus has settled it all on the cross. He has given us the power over sickness. In belief in Jesus Christ as the son of God, we should live in the consciousness as children of God and walk in the ways of God, do his will and listen to his voice.

The new life

"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you." Isaiah 60:1 (NIV)

You have a new life, free from sickness and full of great health having believed in Jesus as the son of God. You can enjoy the Joy of salvation.
