Pray about it

Don't waste your anger and frustration complaining about situations and circumstances. Pray about it as passionately and as vigorously as possible.

What many people don’t realise is that prayer is not just "religious complaint." The act of prayer repositions your heart, your desires, your dispositions. It is in prayer that you get instructions on what next to do, how you should move, and the strategy out of that pit.

So, the right approach to prayer is not always to only speak to God about it (Of course, sometimes, all you need is just to speak to God about it). But beyond that, you should expect a response every single time. Sometimes, it's encouragement. Sometimes, it's clarity. Sometimes, it's instruction. But most definitely, you shouldn't come out of prayer the way you went in.

And I'm careful to say this. But I find it "lazy" to speak to God about something you don’t like and expect it to just end there. Somehow, God will perform a miracle to solve the problem and free you. You don’t see yourself as someone God can use to solve the problem. As one of my pastors says, a lot of times, we pray that God should send men, but have you ever thought that you are the man He is sending? And He's just equipping you for the work ahead?

Be Careful for Nothing

"Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philipians 4:6-7)

Nothing is too big, or too small. Make it known to Him. But bear at the back of your mind that in that process, there is a work going on within you. You shouldn't come out with the same anxiety that you went into prayer with, if anything at all.

...and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding...

Be careful for nothing. Nothing is too practical, inconsequential, big, small, or does not matter. Nothing. And I love verse 1 so much.

What a privilege it is to carry EVERYTHING to God in prayer!

We forfeit peace, we bear unnecessary burdens - just because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Don't be too macho. Don't be too mature. Don't be too big. You cannot be above prayer. There is a God who has given you access. If you believe that He is, you should seek Him diligently. Prayer is not anything small. It is not for 'weak' people. But perhaps, it is precisely for the weak. It is how you communicate with the Only Living God. The Almighty God. The Creator of the Heavens and Earth. The God of All Flesh, for whom nothing is difficult to do. Prayer is the How. And it is a privilege, so take it!

Talking down on prayer does not eliminate the need for prayer. It does not change the need for prayer. In all seasons, in all times, in every situation, prayer is the key. So give yourself to it. Commit yourself to it. God hears you. He hears you. And don't pressure yourself trying to look for the answer. Pray first. Speak it to His ears first.

In the end, prayer is necessary. Whether you get the results you expect or not. It is necessary, and it works. So give yourself to it. You don’t complain situations away. You don't wish good things happen or bad things cease to exist. You don’t "it is well" it. You pray about it! Prayer is more potent than complaining, wishing or vain hoping. So go for prayer. Same energy, different results.
